Police have identified a person in connection with the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, an independent parliamentary aspirant for Dhaka-8 and spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho.

The identification was made through analysis of CCTV footage of the incident, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said in a press release issued today. However, police did not disclose the name or identity of the person.

In a brazen broad-daylight attack, Hadi was shot in the capital’s Paltan area yesterday, leaving him critically injured. The incident took place on Box Culvert Road, between DR Tower and Baitus Salam Jame Mosque, around 2:25pm.

He is still under observation at Evercare Hospital in the capital.

According to the DMP release, police are continuing operations to track down those involved in the attack on Osman Hadi. Anyone with information about the identified person has been requested to inform the police.

The DMP provided three contact numbers for information: 01320040080 (deputy commissioner, Motijheel), 01320040132 (officer-in-charge, Paltan Police Station), and the national emergency helpline 999.

Police assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.

The attack came just a day after the Election Commission unveiled the schedule for the 13th national election.
