TDS Desk:
After the resignation of Sheikh Hasina on August 5 in the face of the mass uprising of the students, most of the policemen who were away from work due to security reasons have joined work, but some senior police officers have not yet returned to work.
Although the activities have started in all the police stations of the country, additional commissioner of DMP Harun Or Rashid, joint commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarkar, influential Proloy Kumar Joarder and some senior officials have not joined the work yet. No one has a clear idea of where they are.
On the day of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation police stations and police installations in different parts of the country including Dhaka came under attack, lootings and arson incidents were also reported in some areas. On that day, more than 200 people, including the police, lost their lives in the conflict. In such a situation, many policemen ran away from the police station. As a result, the country became policeless.
There was a constant fear of robberies at night in various parts of the capital without police. Ordinary people worked as watch guards at night to prevent robberies. In that situation, the Ministry of Home Affairs fixed August 15 as the deadline to join the work for policemen.
On August 11, the government said that the last time for the police members who have not yet joined the work is next Thursday (August 15). If anyone does not join by Thursday, it will be assumed that they are not interested in the job.
An ultimatum was also given by the police headquarters to the policemen staying outside the workplace to join the work. In response to that directive, most of the policemen have already joined, but Harun Or Rashid, Biplob Kumar Sarkar, Proloy Kumar Joarder and some senior officials have not returned to work so far. The police headquarters has extended the time till next Thursday for those who have not yet returned to work.
Police headquarters spokesperson Superintendent of Police (Media) Inamul Haque Sagar said that most of the policemen have joined the work following the instructions. Maybe many could not attend due to various reasons including illness.
It has been found that DMP’s OC, AC, ADC and DC are working regularly. But there is no trace of Harun Or Rashid, Biplob Kumar Sarkar and Proloy Kumar Joarder.
According to a source, on August 5, Harun gave various instructions to the policemen in the field from the police control room. He even ordered firing at the students’ procession at Ganabhaban. Harun fell under the fire of the policemen. He was also physically assaulted. Later, seeing the situation getting worse, he climbed the wall and ran away from the police headquarters.
On the other hand, DMP Joint Commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar also did not join the work within the stipulated time. It is not known where he is now. Proloy Kumar Joarder, who is known as an influential SP, Atiqul Islam of the police headquarters, Anwar Hossain and some others are also reported not to be seen at the police headquarters.
