Police have sought a 10-day remand for Shakil Ahmed, the former head of news of Ekattor television and his wife Farzana Rupa, a former reporter and news presenter of the channel.

An application regarding the matter has been filed and a hearing will be held in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ahmad Humayun Kabir Thusday (22 August).

Shakil Ahmed and his wife Farzana Rupa were arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport yesterday (21 August) in connection with a murder case, police said.

According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the case was filed with Uttara East Police Station under sections 302, 114, and 109 of the Penal Code.

The duo along with their daughter were apprehended by immigration authorities while attempting to leave the country. Later. they were handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of DMP, a DB official said.

The family intended to travel to Paris via Istanbul on the Turkish Airlines flight TK-713.

However, they were denied permission to leave the country by immigration police due to a lack of clearance from the Special Branch (SB) of police.
