Leaders and activists of Narayanganj metropolitan BNP and pro-BNP lawyers have demolished murals of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at three locations, including the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon, targeting murals in front of the DC office, superintendent of police office, and the District and Sessions Judges Court.

According to local sources, the first mural was demolished in front of the DC office, followed by the ones in front of the superintendent of police office and the District and Sessions Judges Court.

Additionally, the memorial corner dedicated to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under the DC’s office was also destroyed.

Advocate Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu, member secretary of Narayanganj metropolitan BNP, said: “These fascists have finally been defeated and forced to flee. But they have left behind symbols of their rule, which is why we have crushed everything associated with the Awami League’s fascism. A list of the martyrs of Narayanganj, who were killed during the July movement, will be placed here.”

Meanwhile, metropolitan BNP Convener Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan added: “These symbols of tyranny stain the spirit of the mass movement of 2024. Such signs cannot be tolerated in this city. In the future, all symbols of oppression will be removed in the same manner.”
