Rabindra University held a views-exchange meeting today with representatives from local administration, law enforcement agencies, journalists, and prominent local personalities at Academic Building-3 on its campus in Shahjadpur, Sirajganj.

Chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Tahmina Akhter, the meeting was addressed by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Sobahan and Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Hossain.

Addressing the event as the chair, VC Professor Tahmina Akhter stressed the importance of strengthening ties between the university and the surrounding community. “Our goal is to foster an effective and positive relationship with local residents through mutual cooperation,” she said, expressing hope that support from the local administration, police, and media would further deepen these bonds.

Referring to recent untoward incidents involving university students, the Vice-Chancellor appealed to local stakeholders for a balanced approach. “Our students are like our children. It is our collective responsibility not only to guide them with discipline but also to support them with care. I call upon everyone to ensure a harmonious environment where students can continue their education smoothly alongside local residents,” she stated.

Professor Tahmina thanked the police and local administration for their swift intervention following the incidents and expressed hope for continued coordination to maintain campus security and peaceful coexistence. She also urged journalists to practice objective and responsible reporting while highlighting the university’s academic achievements, research endeavors, and community initiatives.

During the open discussion, participants unanimously pledged to work together to safeguard peaceful coexistence, student security, and a conducive academic environment.

Among others present at the meeting were Additional Superintendent of Police (Shahjadpur Circle) Hafizur Rahman, Shahjadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sabrina Sharmin, Shahjadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam, former Shahjadpur Upazila BNP General Secretary Arifuzzaman Arif, former Shahjadpur Pourashava BNP President Emdadul Haq Nawshad, Pourashava BNP General Secretary Haji Aiyub Ali, Shahjadpur Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Mizanur Rahman, and Vice-Amir Abdul Malek.

Journalist leaders in attendance included Shahjadpur Press Club President Jafar Liton and General Secretary Alamin Hossain, Shahjadpur Journalist Forum President Rajib Ahmed Russel and Acting General Secretary Selim Talukder, Shahjadpur Reporters’ Club President Shafiqur Rahman and General Secretary Haji Tamim, and Rabindra University Journalist Association President Habibur Rahman.
