The Mehazabien Chowdhury starrer much-anticipated film “Saba” is set to have its European premiere at the 48th Göteborg International Film Festival in Sweden.
Following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the Maksud Hossain directorial film made its Asian debut at South Korea’s Busan International Film Festival and was also selected for Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival.
The Göteborg International Film Festival, which starts on January 24, will feature “Saba” in its Voices section, a category dedicated to honouring the works of emerging filmmakers.
Maksud shared his excitement, saying, “Our journey started last year with Toronto, and the response from festival authorities and critics has been overwhelming. We’re thrilled to keep the momentum going. We’re also excited to announce that the film will soon premiere in the United States and Au The story of “Saba” revolves around a tragic road accident that occurred two decades ago, leaving a 12-year-old girl and her mother severely injured. The girl suffers psychological trauma, while her mother is bound to a wheelchair. The film follows their lives in the aftermath of this event.
In the film, Rokia Prachy portrays the injured mother, while Mehazabien Chowdhury plays the daughter. Another key role is played by Mostafa Monwar.
When asked about the film’s release in Bangladesh, Maksud revealed, “We are aiming for a release hopefully between the two Eid festivals.
