Police on Tuesday arrested six persons including three proxy candidates, who appeared in a recruitment test for Trainee Recruit Constable (TRC) post of police in Sirajganj.
The arrested are: Towhidul Hasan Shipon, 31, son of Abdul Khaleque of Mirpur-12 in Dhaka, Mahfuz Ahmed, 24, son of Syed Ali of Taherpur village in Baghmara upazila of Rajshahi, Nayon Islam, 27, son of Azgor Hossain Mandal of Asimhat village in the same upazila, Shoyeb Sadman, 22, son of late Fazlul Hamidul Karim of Joinpur village in Sadullapur upazila in Gaibandha, Rashedul Islam, 30, and his brother Russel Hossain, 19, son of Fazal Mandal of Sayedabad Purnabasan village in Sirajganj Sadar upazila.
Police said, the six individuals were arrested for appearing and assisting as proxy candidates during the written examination held at the police lines in Sirajganj town on Tuesday for Trainee Recruit Constable (TRC) post of Police in Sirajganj.
The arrested were sent to jail on Wednesday after they were produced before a court in Sirajganj.
During a preliminary interrogation, the arrested confessed that, they were engaged in such manipulation in exchange of big sum of money realized from the genuine candidates. Three of them directly took part in the written examination as proxy and three others were engaged in providing various other supports to them.
Concerned law enforcers suspect that an organized group might have been involved behind these fraudulent activities.
Md Faruq Hossain, Superintendent of Police in Sirajganj told The Daily Sky that, “Investigation into the incident is going on and effort to find out other involved persons is underway.”
Replying to a query, he also said, “Drastic action would be taken after investigation, if anyone of the police department is found involved with the irregularities.”
