Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday said the party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, is set to register as a voter on December 27, shortly after returning to the country from London.

Salahuddin made the announcement while speaking to reporters following a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin in the capital.

He said Tarique Rahman is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on December 25. “The following day is Friday, so he will complete all the necessary formalities to be enrolled in the voters’ list on December 27,” Salahuddin told reporters.

The statement comes amid heightened political attention surrounding Tarique Rahman’s return.
