Residents along the Teknaf border are gripped by fear as the sound of bomb explosions and mortar shell blasts between Myanmar’s government forces and Arakan Army continue to shake the area.
According to locals, from Saturday morning to early Sunday morning, bombs were reportedly thrown from helicopters, and echoed across the border.
Explosions from Myanmar’s Rakhine region, particularly near Teknaf, Hnila, Sabrang, and Saint Martin’s Island, were audible to Bangladeshi residents.
It is believed that the clashes are taking place around the Maungdaw border area in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Adnan Chowdhury said that loud explosion sounds from the ongoing Rakhine conflict in Myanmar are frequently heard across the border.
Locals reported that last night the explosions were particularly intense, and residents near the border have been advised to remain cautious, he added.
