A Dhaka court today issued arrest warrants against the owners of electrolyte drinks of five companies sold in the market without approval. The drinks are – SMC Plus, PranAktive, Bruvana, Akij Recharge, and Turbo.

The court of Pure Food Judge Alaul Akbar gave this order on Tuesday (May 14). Besides, the owners of the company have been asked to appear in court on June 5, 6 and 9 to explain.

The owners will explain whether SMC Plus, PranAktive, Bruvana, Akij Recharge and Turbo are medicines or energy drinks.

Earlier, in the morning, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) authorized safe food inspector Md. Kamrul Hossain filed this case in the Pure Food court. At that time, the safe food inspector said that “none of them is approved”.

Even the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) cannot say whether these are “drugs” or “drinks”, Md. Kamrul Hossain ‍also mentioned that “cricketer Tamim Iqbal is promoting SMC Plus as a model. It is a crime under the Safe Food Act”.

“We asked to stop advertising campaign, no company listened. So, action should be taken against them,” the BFSA safe food inspector added.
