At the airport, Tarique Rahman was welcomed with a floral garland by his mother-in-law, Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu.
Ending all speculation, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting chairman Tarique Rahman set foot on Bangladeshi soil after 17 long years.
On Thursday at 11:41 am, the special flight ‘BG 202’ of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying him landed at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
He was accompanied by his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and their only child, Barrister Zaima Rahman.
As the aircraft’s wheels touched the runway, thousands of party activists present at the airport erupted in deafening slogans.
To welcome the beloved leader, a unique security cordon was established from the runway to the VIP lounge.
At the VIP lounge, a woman placed a garland of roses around Tarique Rahman’s neck. The photograph quickly went viral on social media, with netizens asking who the woman was.
The woman presenting the garland was none other than Tarique Rahman’s mother-in-law, Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu, Dr Zubaida Rahman’s mother and Zaima Rahman’s grandmother. Present alongside her were Dr Zubaida Rahman, Zaima Rahman, and other family members.
Subsequently, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman was also welcomed by the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other senior members of the standing committee. Tarique Rahman embraced Mirza Fakhrul warmly.
