A woman in the capital’s Sabujbagh area allegedly killed her husband by hitting him on the head with a brick while he was asleep, before calling the national emergency helpline 999 to report the crime and turn herself in.
The deceased was identified as Mahfuzur Rahman, 40.
The incident came to light on Thursday (September 3) around 12:00 PM when the caller, Rehana Akhtar, 40, dialed the emergency service from her residence near the Nandipara Boro Mosque in Sabujbagh. She admitted that she fed her husband sleeping pills at the previous night and subsequently beat him to death with a brick while he was asleep.
Upon receiving the call, 999 call taker Constable Arif Hossain and police dispatcher SI Aowlad Hossain immediately coordinated with the Sabujbagh Police Station to dispatch an operational unit to the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest the murder was driven by ongoing marital discord and grievances over the victim’s alleged extramarital affairs with other women.
Police officers arrived at the location shortly after the call and arrested Rehana Akhtar on the spot. Legal proceedings regarding the incident are currently underway.
