A worker was killed after a truck carrying potatoes overturned on the highway in Mirzapur, Tangail, and was struck by another truck, injuring six people, including the officer-in-charge (OC) of the Gorai highway police station.
The accident occurred around 3am on Saturday at the Mirzapur Bypass area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
The deceased has been identified as Elias, from Rangpur, according to the police.
The police report said that the potato truck, coming from the northern region, lost control and overturned on the highway.
While the truck was being recovered and the potatoes were being loaded onto another truck, a second truck crashed into it from behind.
During the incident, OC Masud Khan of Gorai highway police station, along with a sergeant and two other police officers, were among the seven people injured.
They were all taken to the Kumudini Hospital in Mirzapur for treatment.
Later, one of the injured workers succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
According to Sub-Inspector (SI) Sirajul Islam of Gorai highway police station, one worker died in the incident, and four police officers were injured. They were admitted to Kumudini Hospital for treatment.
