The provosts of 11 residential halls at Dhaka University have signed letters of commitment banning ‘student politics’ amid the quota reform movement. Along with the ban on politics, some instructions have been given. This step began at midnight on Wednesday (July 17). The students collected the signatures on the pledge after a move to throw out Chhatra League leaders from residential halls.
The dorms that banned student politics are – Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall, Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall, Amar Ekushey Hall, Ruqayyah Hall, Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall, Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Huq Hall, Shamsun Nahar Hall, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall and Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall.
Several other instructions were included in the letters, such as no party politics at dorms, immediate removal of the students whose terms have expired, and immediate allotment of seats occupied by non-students based on merit.
No outsiders will be allowed in the halls and administrative action will be taken if a student faces any harm (physical or verbal).
