Four Bangladeshi-Americans have joined president-elect Donald Trump in securing notable wins in the recent US elections.

They are Sheikh Rahman, Aboul B Khan, Nabilah Islam, and Md Masudur Rahman.

Each of them was elected to prominent state-level positions, although no Bangladeshi-American has yet been elected to federal office (Senate or Congress).

Aboul Khan, a Republican, won his seventh term as a state representative in New Hampshire. Georgia State Senator Sheikh Rahman, a Democrat, secured a fourth term in office.

Democrat Nabila Islam won her second term as a state senator in Georgia, while Masudur Rahman, also a Democrat, was re-elected to his second term as a state senator in Connecticut’s District-4.

Originally from Pirojpur, Aboul received 67 percent of the votes in Rockingham. Sheikh Rahman, whose family hails from Kishoreganj, received 67.6 percent in Georgia’s 5th Senate district.

Nabilah, whose family has roots in Noakhali, won 55 percent of the vote in Georgia’s 7th Senate district, while Masudur, from Chandpur, garnered 64.8 percent of the vote in Connecticut.

Their victories have generated excitement among the Bangladeshi-American community, who noted an increase in voter turnout this election.

Many expatriates also revealed that they supported Trump in response to Israel’s actions in Gaza and Lebanon, and hoped that a Republican win would help resolve the ‘economic crisis’ and bring stability.
