Eight individuals, including five members of the same family, were detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) while attempting to enter India illegally through the Birampur border in Dinajpur.
The arrests took place on Monday afternoon, approximately 100 yards inside Bangladesh territory from pillar 294/3-S at the Achintpur border.
The information was confirmed by Lt Col ABM Zahidul Karim, commander of Fulbari 29 BGB Battalion.
The detainees are identified as Mongla Chandra, Ganesh Chandra, Sohag Chandra, Buda Chandra, and Bikash Chandra from Bogura Sadar, along with Kamruzzaman from Biral upazila of Dinajpur, and Mominur Rahman and Shoibur Rahman from Birampur upazila.
Birampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Momtazul Haque said that a case was filed on Monday night by the BGB at Birampur Police Station against the eight detainees and five others who are currently absconding.
They were charged with attempting to illegally cross into India from Bangladesh and aiding illegal border crossing. Following legal procedures, the detainees were sent to Dinajpur Court on Tuesday.
