A Sub-Inspector of Raiganj Police Station in Sirajganj district died as he jumped into river to nab an accused on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Rezaul Islam Shah, Sub-Inspector of Raiganj Police Station and also son of Mozammel Haque of Naogaon district.

Arifur Rahman Mandal, Superintendent of Police in Sirajganj told that, Rezaul Islam Shah went to nab an accused of a case at Dhopakandi Radhanagor village in the upazila. At one stage of chasing to an accused, he jumped into Saraswati river. But he could not manage to swim ashore.

On information, Fire Service and Civil Defense activists reached to the spot and recovered the body after a searching with the help of locals. He however, was taken to Shahed M Monsur Ali Medical College and Hospital, where the on duty doctors declared him dead.
