The High Court (HC) on Thursday ordered Etihad Airways to pay Tk 2 crore to two Bangladeshi women who were harassed and tortured at Abu Dhabi Airport in 2011.
The bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil issued the order and asked Etihad to pay the victims within 60 days.
The court also asked Etihad to make sure that no passenger is subjected to such harassment for their gender or colour in future.
Advocate Manzil Murshid stood for the writ petitioner while Advocate Azmalul Hossain represented the country manager of Etihad Airways.
Two Bangladeshi national –Tanzin Bristy and Advocate Nahid Sultana – were arrested at Abu Dhabi Airport after harassment and torture on June 28, 2011.
Later, Tanzin filed a writ petition while the court issued a rule on July 14, 2011 over the matter and asked the Foreign Ministry to investigate the matter. (Source: UNB)
