A Dhaka court has placed former Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan on a five-day remand in a case filed with the Jatrabari police station regarding the shooting and killing of a man named Rafiqul Islam.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saddam Hossain passed the order after the investigation officer presented him to the court with a request for a ten-day remand.
Earlier, on the night of September 16, police arrested him from Room 833 of Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in the capital’s Shyamoli.
The following day, September 17, he was presented before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza with a five-day remand request in a separate case filed with the same police station concerning the shooting and killing of student Imran Hasan.
Sujan’s lawyer filed petitions seeking the cancellation of the remand and applied for bail.
The court rejected the bail plea and placed Sujan on a three-day remand in that case.
Later, the court suspended Sujan’s remand and ordered him to be sent to jail in another murder case filed under the same police station.
