Awami League leader Shirin Chowdhury and her husband were detained by immigration police at Shahjalal International Airport in the capital while leaving the country.

She is the Chairman of Agla Union Parishad of Nawabganj Upazila of Dhaka and Vice President of Dhaka District Women’s Awami League.

Shirin Chowdhury went to the airport with her husband to go to Australia on Wednesday afternoon.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Station Mominul Islam confirmed the news of their detention.

He said that Agla Union Parishad Chairman Shirin Chowdhury and her husband Mahfuzur Rahman alias Masudur Rahman went to Dhaka Airport to go to Australia around 12pm on Wednesday. She identified herself as UP Chairman during interrogation by immigration police. Later, when the Immigration Police informed Nawabganj Police Station about the matter, they found out that there are two cases against Shirin Chowdhury. She was later arrested along with her husband.

The OC also said that after Wednesday evening, the immigration police handed over the detained two to the Nawabganj police station.
