Former MP Dabirul Islam lands in jail

A Correspondent, Thakurgaon:

A court in Thakurgaon today sent Dabirul Islam, former Member of Parliament (MP-lawmaker) of Thakurgaon-2 Constituency, to jail.

Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Special Court Judge Rahima Khatun ordered Dabirul Islam to be sent to Thakurgaon District Jail on Thursday (October 3) afternoon.

Police say on September 3, local businessman Habibur Rahman Bablu filed a case in the court accusing Dabirul Islam as the main accused of extorting Tk 10 crore and naming 28 people. This former MP was arrested in that case.

Earlier on September 11, former MP Mazharul Islam Suzon, son of Alhaj Dabirul Islam, was arrested from Nikunja in Dhaka on September 11.

Noted that Dabirul Islam was elected MP for the first time in 1986. Since then, he was elected MP seven consecutive times in the Thakurgaon-2 constituency till the 2018 11th National Parliament (Jatiya Sangsad – JS) elections.
