Naked photos of victims are captured with women members after abduction for ransom

Due to continuous economic downturn, poverty, separation with husband and many other social atrophies, women are getting engaged in various criminal activities especially abduction during the lockdown.

Police said, women are now getting involved with the kidnapping cycle for ransom. These kidnappers demand ransom after abducting ordinary people. At the same time, they capture naked and obscene pictures with their female members for blackmailing. Therefore, the victims don’t dare to take help of the law enforcers in fear of harassment. Thus, the cycle is taking advantage using women in their gang.

AKM Hafeez Akhter, Additional Commissioner of DB in DMP said, “We have arrested such six members of a professional kidnapping group from Dakshinkhan area in the capital recently. The snatchers had been living in the capital for long. Consequently, we have started collecting tenant information again in which such criminals can’t live here further.”

Businessman Anwarul Islam was waiting for a car on the east side of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Uttara House building area. Suddenly a gang of abductors numbering four to five came to the victim in a microbus and picked him up. Then, they took him to an unknown place. Later, the kidnappers demanded Tk 5 lakh as ransom from the victim’s wife and elder brother through Bikash. After receiving the ransom, the kidnappers left him in front of Labaid Hospital in Uttara under East police station.

A case was lodged with Uttara East police station in this connection recently. The detective police also started a shadow investigation into the case.

Detectives tracked down a kidnapping ring, while investigating into the abduction incident of a businessman in Uttara a few days ago. Police came to know that the ring abducted four more people in the capital recently.

Police said, initially, none of the victims complained to the police. When they saw that the detectives were arresting the kidnappers by conducting operation one after another, they rushed to the police with confidence. All four victims have already lodged complaints with the police.

During the interrogation, the arrested confessed that, they used to take pornographic pictures of the victims with the female members of the gang after the abduction so that the victim cannot open their mouths. As a result, they do not open their mouths in fear.

In the face of such incidents, police urged everyone to inform the police publicly or secretly out of fear or not for any other reason. The DMP has multiple cases against the arrested in Uttara West, Uttara East and Airport Police Stations.

DB police said, the presence of women in the recent abduction cycle is quite noticeable. The presence of women was also found in several cases earlier.

Police said, abductors are recruiting women in their gang as a new tactic. Abductors forcibly take nude photos of the victims with the women for ransom so that the victim can’t open his or her mouth to the law enforcers next time. Women have been involved in at least 30 such incidents in the last six months. The kidnapping ring has spread across the capital especially in terminal areas.

While asked about the tenant’s information, Sohel Rana, AIG (media) of Police Headquarters said, “All police stations have already asked to collect necessary information of the tenants to keep the law and order situation under control.”
