Three resorts were destroyed on the St Martin’s Island in the early hours of Wednesday as a fire broke out and lasted more than an hour due to the absence of a local fire station.
The locals, Coast Guard, Navy and Tourist Police managed to bring the fire under control at 4am.
Mujibur Rahman, chairman of Saint Martin’s Union Parishad, confirmed that no tourists or locals were harmed in the incident.
The fire erupted at a rubbish burning site in Galachipa area of the island’s west coast, according to the owner of Kingshuk Eco Resort. Beach Valley Eco Resort, six rooms of Kingshuk Eco Resort, and a section of Shayari Eco Resort were engulfed in fire on a short notice.
