TDS Desk:
One student suffered injuries on Monday night as his fellow students moved to repel a terrorist attack led by a notorious Chhatra League (BCL) member at the Government Michael Madhusudan College in Jashore.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Babul told reporters Sagar, a terrorist and a BCL member, led his comrades to attack students on the college campus. Hearing the news, a large number of other students took to the streets to chase away the criminals and protest the attack. Police deployed to the scene and the situation normalised at 10pm Monday.
During the Awami League (AL) regime, Sagar terrorised the areas in and around the college. Some locals claimed Sagar is originally a street urchin, and put on the BCL garb, at the behest of Awami League leaders, to extend his influence. After the autocratic AL government’s fall on 5 August, Sagar went into hiding, but has returned to the scene recently to reclaim his territorial influence.
On Monday, a cultural programme was organised on the college campus. At night, Sagar’s team went to the campus and started beating Chhatra Dal leaders Biltu, Titon and general student Rana. Seeing the commotion, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and general students joined forces to repel the terrorists.
Sagar fled the scene but his comrades tried to launch a counter attack. Students hit back again, attacking Sagar’s terror den at the Hawkers’ Market near the college campus.
