Speakers at a programme said concerted efforts of all government and non-government organisations can be the effective means of stopping human trafficking.

Public and private organizations should come forward and work together to eliminate human trafficking, said government officials, development activists, and other stakeholders while addressing a workshop titled “Human Trafficking Prevention and Disaster Alert” here Wednesday.

On behalf of their ‘Bpames Advancement Climate Change Project,’ the Welfare Association Development for Alternative (WADA) and Winrock International jointly organized the workshop at the office conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Khulna.

DC Muhammad Saiful Islam addressed the meeting as chief guest with Additional DC Bitan Kumar Mondal in the chair.

WADA Chairman Nilufa Akter, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension Kazi Jahangir Hossain, Deputy Director of Department of Social Service Kaniz Mostofa, Deputy Director of Department of Women Affairs Sazia Afrin Siddiqui and Assistant Director of Department of Employment and Manpower Iqbal Hossain also spoke.

WADA Project Manager Al Amin Sarder moderated the discussion.

In open discussions, the participants put forward a set of recommendations on how to make the service-oriented activities appropriate to ease the sufferings of the victims.

They also advocated for formulating a time-befitting plan of action so that qualitative services are ensured.

In his remarks, DC Saiful Islam said human trafficking is a dangerous social problem that pushes social stability to a threatening condition. There is an urgent need for effective legal arrangements together with generating mass awareness to prevent the offense.

Simultaneously, all quarters should come forward with effective roles to protect life and resources from disasters caused by the adverse impact of climate change.
