Miscreants attempted a robbery by digging a tunnel at a Sonali Bank branch in Lalmonirhat on Tuesday around 1:30am.

The incident occurred at the sub-branch of Sonali Bank in the Boro Badi area of Sadar upazila, said Lalmonirhat Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Noor Nabi.

Upon receiving information, police, along with the army and other law enforcement agencies, surrounded the bank.

For security reasons, no one is being allowed near the premises.

According to locals, around 1:30am, a bank clerk noticed something suspicious and screamed.

When locals rushed to the scene, they discovered a tunnel behind the bank’s wall.

They immediately informed the police and law enforcement agencies, who arrived and cordoned off the entire area.

Meanwhile, the bank authorities have not commented on whether any money has been stolen.

However, law enforcement agencies have said that an investigation is underway.

Boro Badi Union Parishad Chairman Nazmul Huda Limon said the bank authorities, along with the police and the army, are investigating whether any money or other valuables have been taken from the bank.

The Officer-in-Charge added that an investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided once it is complete.
