A court in Sirajganj has issued an order to file case against six police officers, including former OC of Ullapara and Salanga police stations, on charge of torturing to a truck driver in the police custody.

On Tuesday, KM Shahriar Bappi, Judge of Administrative Court directed the Police Super (SP) in Sirajganj to accept the plaintiff’s application as a regular case.

Plaintiff’s lawyer Golam Hadi Kiron confirmed the matter to The Daily Sky on Wednesday (January 29) morning.

The accused are: former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ullapara Model Police Station Asif Mohammad Siddiqul Islam, former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Salanga Police Station Enamul Haque, Inspector (Investigation) Sheikh Tajuddin Ahmed, Sub-Inspector (SI) Munsur Rahman, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Abdul Quddus and former Sub-Inspector (SI) of Ullapara Police Station Abdus Salam. Besides, nine to ten more police personnel may be added with the case as unidentified accused.

Earlier, the victim truck driver Rokon Molla, son of Rahmat Ali Molla of Nechhrapara (Shibbari) village under Faridpur police station in Pabna district filed a petition to the Salanga Amli Court.

Lawyer Golam Hadi Kiron said that, the court has directed the Superintendent of Police in Sirajganj to cognizance the case as regular ones.

Demanding proper investigation and trial, the victim truck driver Rokon Molla said, “Former OC of Ullapara police station Asif Mohammad Siddiqur Islam awarded me a crippled life by shooting on my leg with a pistol. Now, I don’t have one leg. I was in jail for a long time in three false cases filed by the dishonest police. Due to mischief of the police, I could not take any legal action against the injustice.”

Terming the allegation as false and baseless, the main accused of the case Asif Muhammad Siddiqur Islam, also former OC of Ullapara Model Police Station, said, “The truck driver was the leader of an inter-district robbers’ gang. There are 28 cases against him in different police stations of six districts in the northern region.”

Faruk Hossain, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Sirajganj, said, “In the view of complaint submitted by the truck driver Rokon Molla, the court has directed to register the case as regular ones. The process of registering the case is underway as per the court directive.”

“Necessary steps will be taken shortly after registering the case,” he added.
