Condition of mother, who attempts suicide, stated to be critical

Two siblings died as they were allegedly poisoned by their mother over a family feud in Kalikapur village under Krishnanagor union in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira district on Wednesday afternoon.

The mother, who also attempted to commit suicide in the same way, is now undergoing treatment at Satkhira Medical College Hospital (Samech). But, her condition is stated to be critical, doctors said.

The two deceased are Mahir, 5, and Aryan, 9 months, son of Hasan Sheikh of the mentioned village.

Police and local sources said, Ratna Khatun, 30, fed poison to her two kids centering an altercation with her husband Hasan Sheikh. She also consumed the same poison after feeding it to her two children with the aim to commit suicide together in absence of her husband.

Sensing the matter, locals rescued them in critical condition and took them to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex, where the on duty doctors declared the siblings dead.

As the condition of their mother deteriorated further, she was referred to Satkhira Medical College Hospital (Samech).

Shyamnagar Police Station OC Md. Humayun Kabir Molla confirmed it and said, “Necessary action would be taken after investigating into the matter.”
