Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain said, it is not possible for the Interim Government to resolve all issues quickly.

He made this remark at the inauguration ceremony of the six canal renovation project under the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Sunday.

Youth and Sports Adviser said, waterlogging will be somewhat reduced through the Blue Network initiative.

“If the canals had been properly preserved, the landscape of Dhaka city would have been different. It is not possible for the Interim Government to solve all issues quickly. Therefore, we are implementing some plans,” he said.

“The Dhaka North Model Plan has been initiated, which will serve as a role model for the city,” he added.

Speaking at the event, Environment, Forest, Climate Change, and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said, the dredging of the six canals would begin before the monsoon.

“There was a lack of coordination in the past, but now an inter-ministerial effort is in place. While it will take time to complete, we are starting the work now,” she said.

“The work has started under a program, not a project. The dredging of the canals will begin first, followed by restoration. There will be several challenges during the restoration phase, and we must all work together to overcome them.”
