Advocate Zainul Abedin, president of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum, a forum of lawyers aligned with the BNP, has issued a one-month ultimatum to the interim government to remove “Sheikh Hasina’s allies” from all administrative and law enforcement agencies.

Speaking at a protest rally in front of the Supreme Court Bar Association Building on Sunday, Zainul demanded that those responsible for the death of Jubo Dal leader Md Towhidul Islam in police custody in Comilla be brought to justice.

He highlighted that within a month, the government must remove “fascist” elements from the administration and law enforcement agencies, saying otherwise, lawyers would take to the streets in black robes.

Barrister Kaysar Kamal, general secretary of the forum, called for an immediate impartial investigation into Towhidul Islam’s death and the swift prosecution of those responsible.

He expressed disbelief that, even after the removal of the fascist regime of Sheikh Hasina, they would still have to take to the streets to demand justice for the murder of their colleague.

Kamal warned that those affiliated with the regime might have been behind the killing and insisted on a fair investigation to bring the perpetrators to trial.

He also urged the state to ensure that no more political workers like Towhidul are subjected to such killings.
