A case has been filed over the snatching of Sujanagar upazila Awami League president and former upazila chairman Abdul Wahab from police custody in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna.

Joint forces conducted a drive overnight at various places in Sujanagar upazila on Sunday and detained several individuals, said Sujanagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Mostafa on Monday.

He said they detained 16 people during the operation and that those identified in video footage will be formally shown as arrested.

The drive is ongoing, and the remaining accused will be arrested soon, OC Mostafa added.

On Saturday afternoon, when Abdul Wahab was detained in front of Mathurapur High School in Sujanagar municipality, his supporters attacked the police and snatched him from their custody.

Pabna Superintendent of Police Mortoza Ali Khan reported that eight police personnel were injured in the attack.

Sujanagar police station Sub-Inspector Azahar Ali filed a case in connection with the incident.

Abdul Wahab is also a fugitive accused in multiple cases related to the July-August movement, during which he allegedly led attacks on demonstrators.

Meanwhile, BNP and Jamaat leaders and activists staged separate protest marches and rallies in Sujanagar upazila headquarters on Sunday night, demanding the arrest of those responsible for the assault on the police.
