Two people were killed in a clash between two groups over a land dispute in Bishutara village under Kalikacch Union in Brahmanbaria’s Sarail Upazila on Tuesday (February 4 ).
The deceased were identified as Azad Mia, 55, and Amanat Mia, 60, both residents of Bishutara village.
At least five others were injured in the clash this morning, but their identities could not be confirmed immediately.
According to police and locals, there was an ongoing dispute between Azad and his nephew Insan Mia over the ownership of ancestral property.
This morning, as Azad was opening his shop, Insan and his supporters launched an attack on him with sharp weapons, leading to his death on the spot.
Following the incident, Azad’s supporters retaliated, leading to a violent confrontation. During the clash, Insan supporter Amanat sustained critical injuries after being stabbed with a spear.
He was rushed to Brahmanbaria General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Sarail police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Rafiqul Islam confirmed that police were dispatched to the scene immediately upon receiving the news.
The bodies were sent to the hospital’s morgue for autopsies, and legal proceedings, including the filing of a case, were underway.
