In Gazipur’s Kaliganj, the driver of a vegetable-laden pickup lost control while giving way to an autorickshaw and veered off the road into a lowland, killing the driver and two others on Wednesday morning.

The identities of the deceased remain unknown, but they are estimated to have been between 30 and 35 years old.

The accident occurred in the Noapara (Moishair) area along the Joydebpur-Itakhola road in Kaliganj upazila.

Kaliganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Alauddin said the pickup, loaded with vegetables, was travelling from Sylhet to Gazipur.

Upon reaching Moishair in Kaliganj, the driver lost control while trying to give way to an autorickshaw, causing the vehicle to crash into a lowland beside the road.

The impact killed three people on the spot, including the driver, he OC said, adding that it is believed that the deceased included the driver, his assistant and a vegetable trader.

Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies.

Efforts are underway to identify the victims, and legal proceedings are in progress, added Alauddin.
