Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury urged the people on Wednesday (February 26) not to take law into their own hands.

“I will urge people not to take law into their own hands and police to become more active,” he told reporters after inaugurating the farmers’ cool house initiative and the farmers’ mobile app developed by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) at the Horticulture Centre in Rajalakh area of Savar.

Additionally, he stated that the number of personnel in the police force and other law enforcement agencies would be increased soon.

Meanwhile, in response to a journalist’s question regarding the destruction of topsoil from agricultural land for use in brick kilns in various regions of the country, the advisor mentioned that they are planning to introduce an Agricultural Land Protection Act to safeguard farmland.

He said, “Agricultural land is being destroyed by removing its topsoil for brick kilns. If this continues, our future will be bleak. To prevent this, we are working on enacting an Agricultural Land Protection Act.”

In response to a question regarding directives given to law enforcement personnel to maintain stability amid the deteriorating law and order situation in Savar and Dhamrai upazilas, he said, “Along with industrial police, local police stations, and RAB, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the army have also been deployed here. Criminals are being brought under the law. However, public awareness must be increased. Those involved in criminal activities should also be counseled to abandon such actions.”

He also said the government has undertaken several measures to protect agricultural lands.

Agriculture Secretary Dr Md Emdad Ullah Mia and senior officials from various government departments and law enforcement agencies, among others, attended the meeting.
