The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday acquitted BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his close aide Gias Uddin Al-Mamun from a money laundering case, in which they were sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment by the High Court.
The apex court also scrapped the HC verdict in the case.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed delivered the judgment following an appeal filed by Gias Uddin challenging the HC verdict.
Advocate Maksud Ullah, a lawyer for Tarique Rahman, confirmed the matter.
