4 to die for killing auto driver in Munshiganj

A local court today sentenced four people to death in a case filed over the killing of auto driver Ashraful in Louhjong, Munshiganj. Besides, the other accused in that case were sentenced to different terms.

Additional District and Sessions Judge 2nd Court Judge Begum Khaleda Yasmin Urmi handed down the verdict around 12:30 pm on Wednesday.

The death sentence awardees are Rubel Islam Nayan, Mohammad Razel, Akram Molla, and Hasan Sheikh. Besides, the court acquitted the accused Imran Hossain Tofazzal and Sabuj Sheikh as the charges against them were not proven. On the other hand, three accused have been sentenced to two years imprisonment.

According to the case affidavit, Ashraful Islam went out in an autorickshaw on the evening of September 29, 2020. Later at 8 o’clock, the father of the deceased received news that his son Ashraful was found lying with his throat cut in the Gwalimandra area of ​​the upazila. Locals rescued him and took him to Laujong Health Complex from where he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment. The doctor declared him dead at around 10 pm there.

Ashraful was killed by slitting the throat of the accused, including the accused, who was sentenced to death. The victim’s father, Rafiqul Islam, filed a murder case against 9 people at Munshiganj Lauhjong Police Station the next day of the incident. Later, police arrested nine accused in the incident. The defendants sentenced to death gave their statements in court. The court gave this verdict today after taking the testimony of 13 witnesses.

Confirming the matter, the government strategist of the court said that the state got justice in this verdict.
