A ship carrying 12,500 tonnes of rice from Vietnam arrived at Chattogram Port on Saturday.
The rice was imported under a government-to-government agreement, according to a press release of the food ministry.
Earlier on 3 February, the government inked an agreement with its Vietnamese counterpart to import 100,000 tonnes of rice to meet local demand.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh received a total of 72,700 tonnes of rice under the G-to-G agreement, according to the press release.
The simple examination task of the rice has already been finished and the unloading works will begin soon.
The authorities concerned have already taken necessary measures to accelerate the unloading works, added the press release.
According to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), coarse rice is priced between Tk 52 and Tk58 per kg and fine rice is priced between Tk 88 and Tk90 per kg as of 19 April.
These prices indicate a slight increase from previous weeks, said the government trading agency.
