229 motorcyclists among 583 killed on roads in April

The Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association reported that 583 people died in road accidents across the country in April 2025, with 1,022 others injured, according to a press release issued on Monday, May 26, signed by Secretary General Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury.

The data was compiled by monitoring reports of road, rail, and waterway accidents published in national, regional, and online newspapers.

The report detailed 567 road accidents, resulting in 583 deaths and 1,022 injuries.

Additionally, 35 railway accidents claimed 35 lives and injured five people, while eight waterway accidents left 10 dead and one missing.

In total, 610 accidents across all transport modes resulted in 628 deaths and 1,027 injuries.

Motorcycle accidents were a significant concern, with 215 incidents leading to 229 deaths and 224 injuries, accounting for 37.91% of total accidents, 39.27% of deaths, and 18.64% of injuries.

Chattogram division recorded the highest number of road accidents (138), with 136 deaths and 377 injuries, while Sylhet division had the fewest (28), with 31 deaths and 51 injuries.
