The indefinite bus strike on the Pabna-Dhaka route has been called off.

Aminul Islam Babul, office secretary of the Pabna Motor Owners’ Group confirmed the matter on Saturday afternoon.

Acting president of the Pabna Motor Owners’ Group, Khademul Islam Badsha, said: “With the intervention of the district administration, we have received assurances of resolving the issues. Therefore, the three organizations decided together to withdraw the strike. From 6am on Saturday, long-distance buses started operating as before. We hope the related problems will be permanently resolved soon.”

The indefinite transport strike on the Pabna-Dhaka route began in protest against the alleged assault on a bus worker from Pabna in Shahjadpur, Sirajganj.

Due to the strike, passengers travelling from Pabna to Dhaka on Thursday and Friday faced severe difficulties.

Many, unable to find buses, had to reach their destinations by renting small vehicles at higher fares.

Some, disappointed by the lack of buses, returned home from the counters.
