Nation prepares for Victory Day with cultural festivities

As Bangladesh marks the it’s 54th Victory Day, the nation is set to observe Victory Day 2025 with a wide range of national, cultural and community programmes. The events have been planned by various government and non-government organisations and institutions.

The Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh has invited citizens to attend a special air show on December 16, describing it as a historic and unforgettable Victory Day spectacle.

To commemorate 54 years of independence, 54 paratroopers carrying 54 national flags will descend from aircraft in a display expected to set a world record during the air show.

Spectators have been requested to enter through the Taltola Gate opposite IDB Bhaban, which will open at 8am. Visitors are asked to assemble at designated locations by 10:00 am.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) are organising a two-day Victory Festival at Suhrawardy Udyan, paying tribute to the spirit of the Liberation War and the valour of its martyrs.

On December 15 at 3:00 pm, an acrobatic show will be staged at Suhrawardy Udyan, offering an artistic display of physical skill and discipline.

Later, at 6:00 pm, BSA’s Repertory Jatra Unit will present the biographical jatra General Osmani, shedding light on a lesser-known yet significant chapter of the Liberation War. The production is written by Riju Lakshmi Abarodh, directed by Shamim Khandakar and performed by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Repertory Jatra Unit.

On December 16 from 2:00 pm, a Victory Day concert will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan, featuring performances by Shayan, Shironamhin, Lalon, Bangla Five and Tong er Gaan, among others.

Later in the programme, Faria Ila Lalala, Firoze Jong and F Minor will also take the stage, with songs inspired by 1971 resonating throughout the event. At the same time, songs from Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra will be broadcast simultaneously in all 64 districts of the country.

The Liberation War Museum will host its Victory Festival on December 16 at 10am at its auditorium, beginning with the national anthem and the hoisting of the national flag.

A cultural programme for children and adolescents will feature performances by SOS Children’s Village, Nrittorag Academy, Shilpobritto, and Milestone School and College.

Additional performances will be presented by Murchhana Sangeet Academy, Bonoful Sangeet Academy, Boddhobhumir Shontandol, and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Girls’ High School.

Chhayanaut will observe Victory Day with its Victory Festival 2025 on December 16 at 3:50 pm. The programme will be broadcast live on Deepto Television, as well as on Chhayanaut’s official Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi will mark the day with a procession starting at 7:00 am from Satyen Sen Chattar at the Press Club to the Savar National Memorial.

In the afternoon, a flag procession, women’s march-past and liberation songs will be held from the Engineering Institute gate to the Central Shaheed Minar at 4:00 pm.

The programme is being jointly organised by Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Bangladesh Jubo Union and Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi.

On the occasion of Victory Day 2025, the Bangladesh National Museum and all galleries of its affiliated branch museums will remain open to visitors from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm, with free entry on December 16, a public holiday.

In addition, several other organisations and institutions will celebrate the 54th Victory Day with their own cultural programmes and tributes.
