EC grants 53 appeals, rejects 17 on 4th day

The Election Commission (EC) has approved the appeals of 53 candidates and rejected 17 on the fourth day of nomination paper scrutiny for 13th parliamentary election.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin chaired the hearing, held at the Election Bhaban auditorium on Tuesday. The EC settled these appeals between 10am and 4pm. EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed shared this information following the conclusion of the hearings.

Ahmed stated that 70 appeals were heard on Tuesday, the fourth day of hearings against the decisions of returning officers. Out of these, the Election Commission granted 53 applications and rejected 17.

A total of 645 appeal applications were filed with the EC against the decisions made by returning officers during the nomination paper scrutiny. The filing of appeals began on 5 January and ended on 9 January.

Returning officers had cancelled 723 nominations till 4 January.

The appeal hearings at the Election Commission commenced at 10am on 10 January and are set to continue until 18 January.

According to the schedule, hearings for appeals numbered 01 to 70 took place on 10 January. This was followed by appeals 71 to 140 on 11 January, 141 to 210 on 12 January, and appeals 211 to 280 on 13 January.
