The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an inquiry into allegations of misappropriation of government funds amounting to Tk7.47 crore by former chief election commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda and several officials of his commission.
ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain confirmed the matter to reporters on Monday (28 July).
“A decision has been made to launch an inquiry into allegations against the former chief election commissioner, commissioners, secretary, and others for causing a loss of public funds amounting to Tk7.47 crore by conducting fake training programmes without any policy, along with other irregularities,” Akhtar said.
He added that the inquiry team will determine whether further irregularities took place beyond the current allegations.
The alleged embezzlement reportedly occurred during training sessions arranged in connection with the 5th Upazila Parishad Elections, he said.
