Rescue vessel Hamza joins operation

A bus carrying 40 passengers overturned and fell into the river while attempting to board a ferry at Rajbari’s Daulatdia terminal, raising fears of multiple casualties on Wednesday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 5:15 pm when a bus of Souhardo Paribahan slipped from pontoon-3 and plunged into the river while trying to board the ferry.
Trinath Saha, in-charge of the Daulatdia River Police Outpost, told Dhaka Tribune that the bus carried around 40 passengers. He added that the rescue vessel Hamza has joined the operation and two people have already been rescued.
According to eyewitnesses, river police and local sources, about 40 passengers were onboard the bus at the time of the incident. As the vehicle attempted to board the ferry from the pontoon, it fell into the river.
Following the incident, a diving team from the Fire Service launched a rescue operation. Efforts were ongoing to recover the remaining passengers at the time of filing this report.
