A new five-year initiative titled the ‘Fifth Primary Education Development Programme’ is set to begin on July 1, aiming to provide English language training to all remaining primary school teachers, said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He made the statement on Wednesday during the 14th day of the first session of the National Parliament.
While responding to a question from Member of Parliament Hummam Qader Chowdhury of Chattogram-7 constituency n Wednesday, the Prime Minister said the government’s election manifesto places strong emphasis on improving the teaching quality and professional skills of primary school teachers through specialized training programs.
He noted that there are currently 376,499 teachers working in primary schools across the country.
Under the ongoing ‘Fourth Primary Education Development Programme,’ around 130,000 teachers have already received training in English. The upcoming program will focus on training the remaining teachers to ensure comprehensive coverage.
The Prime Minister added, the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing the overall standard of primary education nationwide.
