Investigation underway into causes behind measles outbreak: Health Secy

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), nine more children died from measles and related symptoms between 8am yesterday and 8am today.

Authorities are investigating the causes behind the ongoing measles outbreak in the country as well as the deaths of children linked to the disease, Health Secretary M Quamruzzaman Chowdhury said today (9 May).

“The state bears responsibility for every death and each incident requires proper investigation, ” he made the remarks at a roundtable discussion titled “Measles outbreak and the way forward”, organised by Bangladesh Health Reporters Forum (BHRF) at Dr Milton Hall of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) in the capital.

“Incidents of child deaths from measles are being investigated and we will inform you once the investigation report is prepared,” he added.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), nine more children died from measles and related symptoms between 8am yesterday and 8am today.

The latest health bulletin said authorities have identified 47,656 suspected measles cases nationwide so far, while 29,746 patients have already been discharged after treatment.
