Six children died from measles in the 24 hours till 8am Tuesday, raising the total number of confirmed and suspected deaths from the outbreak to 481 since March 15, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS said three confirmed measles deaths and two suspected deaths were reported during the period, all in the Barisal division. Another child also died with measles symptoms during the same period, taking the total deaths in the last 24 hours to six.
Since March 15, the country has recorded 401 suspected measles deaths and 80 confirmed deaths, the DGHS said in its latest health bulletin issued on Tuesday.
During the same period, 138 new confirmed measles cases and 1,270 suspected cases were reported nationwide.
The total number of confirmed measles cases since March 15 has risen to 8,067, while the number of suspected cases has reached 57,856, according to data from the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the DGHS.
Health authorities said 45,128 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country since the outbreak began, while 41,120 patients have so far been discharged after treatment.
The DGHS said it continues monitoring the outbreak as surveillance and treatment efforts are being intensified nationwide.
