A trader was rescued with throat slit in a bloody state in a shop of the municipal supermarket in Sirajganj town on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Azimul Islam Azim, 30, son of Rabiul Islam of Hossainpur area in the town and he was also owner of ‘Ms. Shital Fashion’.

He was rescued from his shop at morning and firstly taken to Sirajganj General Hospital. Later, he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

Officer-in-charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station Rakibul Islam said that, it has not yet been confirmed whether the incident was a murder or an attempt to commit suicide. The matter is being investigated seriously.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Nazran Rouf said that a sharp knife and a mobile phone were recovered from the scene. An investigation is underway to uncover the real cause of the incident.

Local businessmen said that, they understood the matter when they saw blood coming out from under the shutter of the shop in the morning. Later, they entered into the shop and saw Azim lying in a bloody state and rushed him to the hospital. Such incidents in this busy market area ahead of Eid-ul-Adha have spread panic among traders.

Local businessmen further said, he might be attempted to murder by the extortionists ahead of Eid.
