Investigation report to be submitted soon, officials say charge sheet and DNA test underway

The prime accused in the Pallabi child Ramisa Akter murder case, Zakir Hossain alias Sohel Rana, has a history of criminal activities and an unfavorable past record, indicating he was previously involved in various offenses, said Additional Commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan (DMP) Md Shafiqul Islam.

Speaking at a press conference held at the DMP Media Center on Friday, the additional commissioner said to reporters that the investigation report of the Ramisa murder case will be submitted to the court within a short time.

He said the main accused had been involved in multiple criminal offences in the past and had a history of wrongdoing.

Earlier on Thursday night, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed told reporters that police had swiftly arrested the accused and that he had already given a confessional statement under Section 164. He added that the case was now at the stage of filing the charge sheet.

The minister said that a DNA test was required before submitting the charge sheet. He noted that the CID laboratory was already conducting the test with court approval and that the process would take about 48 hours as it is a scientific procedure, expected to be completed by Sunday afternoon.

He further said that the charge sheet would be submitted to the court within that timeframe and that efforts would be made to ensure a speedy trial and maximum punishment for the accused.

On Tuesday, police recovered Ramisa’s body from a residence in Pallabi, which triggered widespread outrage across the country.

The main accused, Zakir Hossain alias Sohel Rana, was arrested from Narayanganj and later gave a confessional statement in court.
