A letter has been sent to the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Bangladesh Police to take steps to seek a ‘Red Notice’ through Interpol for the arrest of former army chief General (retd) Aziz Ahmed, an accused in a case involving crimes against humanity.
The Office of the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal sent the letter to the NCB.
Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam disclosed the information to journalists on Tuesday.
The NCB is the central communication and coordinating agency between Interpol and each of its member countries. It is located at the Bangladesh Police headquarters and facilitates the exchange of information on international criminals and fugitives and their arrests.
Speaking at his office, the chief prosecutor said they had learned that Aziz Ahmed was staying in the United States. After confirming the information, they sent the letter to the NCB on Monday seeking a Red Notice.
