A madrasa student of Belkuchi in Sirajganj district died while undergoing treatment for fever with dengue symptom.
The deceased, 12-year-old Md. Shafin, passed away early Friday morning (October 2) at the Islami Bank Hospital in Dhaka.
Shafin was the younger son of Md. Sakhawat Hossain Mithu from Kalagachi village in the Dhukuriabera Union under Belkuchi Upazila. He was a student at a local madrasa and had memorized 10 paras of the Holy Qur’an.
According to family and local sources, Shafin developed a sudden high fever six days ago, leaving him severely weakened. After testing positive for dengue, his family admitted him to Avicenna Hospital in Sirajganj. As his condition did not improve after two days of treatment, doctors advised moving him to Enayetpur Khaja Yunus Ali Medical College Hospital.
After spending two more days under treatment there, doctors reported that dengue complications had affected his liver and urgently recommended transferring him to Dhaka.
The victim’s uncle, Shahadat Hossain, shared that they departed for Dhaka by ambulance on Thursday night (October 1) per the medical team’s advice. After struggling to secure a bed across several hospitals in Dhaka, they eventually admitted him to Islami Bank Hospital, where he passed away shortly after the Fajr prayer on Friday.
The funeral prayer (Janazah) was held after Jummah prayers at the Kalagachi Eidgah ground, followed by his burial at the local graveyard.
